SMSTS Refresher

About this course

The SMSTS refresher course is designed for delegates who have previously passed the full SMSTS course and the validity of their original certificate is due to expire. It is intended to bring health and safety knowledge up to date, as well as exploring any legislative changes and their impact in the workplace.

The CITB – Construction Skills Site Safety Plus Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) Refresher Course covers the following:

  • Regulations update and overview
  • Work at height regulations
  • Fall-arrest and suspension
  • Equipment
  • Control of noise and vibration
  • Fire prevention and control
  • Risk assessment
  • CDM regulations
  • Accident reporting, investigation, prevention and control
  • Management of heath on site
  • Behaviour-based safety
  • Drugs and alcohol misuse

Who this course is for

Only delegates who hold an existing SMSTS or subsequent refresher course and can provide evidence are eligible to attend the refresher course. Delegates who have exceeded the six-month grace period are not eligible to take the refresher course. It is important that all delegates have a good understanding of spoken and written English.

Duration

This course is delivered as a short intensive course, preferably over two consecutive days although it can be evidence on two non-consecutive days if required by the client. Training involves classroom-based tutorials and practical exercises.

Certification

CITB Accreditation valid for 5 years.

The certificate is valid for 5 years. You will need to take the SMSTS Refresher course before your certificate expires

You need to renew this certficate every five years before it expires by attending the SMSTS Refresher course. Otherwise, you'll need to take the full SMSTS course again.

Mandatory entry requirements

To be able to read, write and understand English to a good level. Please contact us if you have any concerns in this area.

If you need to re-sit the test, you must do this within 90 days of the original course date at an additional charge

You will need to provide a valid ID on the first day of the course, such as a copy of your passport or driving licence.
